At LifeWays, we believe in being an active part of our communities. Our staff are committed to participating in at least one community event each calendar year and many them go far above and beyond that! Here are just a few of the the events we participated in over the last year:
In January, Team LifeWays braved the icy waters of Clarklake for the 2018 Polar Plunge, benefiting the Special Olympics of Michigan.
Not only did six team members take the icy plunge, but our team also raised over $1,000 for the Special Olympics thanks to the efforts of our entire staff!
Every year, LifeWays Community Mental Health recognizes the many achievements of the consumers we serve and our network of providers at our Annual Celebration. Almost 400 consumers, providers and community members attended this year at Gene Davis & Sons on May 10, 2018.
We celebrated healthy living with fruit baskets, a better understanding of integrated health care and the success of LifeWays' Integrated Health program "HealthyMe". We also gave out 6 Consumer Awards and 6 Provider Awards. Thank you to all you do!
LifeWays partnered with the Jackson County Suicide Prevention Coalition to host the Stomp Out Suicide in September.
In May, Team LifeWays participated in the 6th Annual Around the Park for Autism 5K Run/Walk at Cascades Falls Park.
This family friendly event raised funds for Jackson Autism Support Network who help local families affected by Autism. Despite the rain there was a great turnout at Cascades Park!
Thousands of consumers, providers, family members, and friends gathered on the Capitol Steps in Lansing on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 as a demonstration of the importance of mental health services in Michigan. This event is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate recovery, fight stigma, and educate the public and Michigan Legislators regarding the vast need of mental health services in our communities. We hope you can join us next year!
Islands of Wellness was a family mental health fair at the American 1 Event Center, inspired by Disney's Inside Out and SAMHSA's Eight Dimensions of Wellness! We had almost 90 attendees this year. We also had 18 different organizations participate with activities and information.
Activities and challenges throughout the day taught attendees how to take care of their mental health and beat stress in a fun and interactive way! Attendees had the opportunity to complete challenges at each of the 8 Islands featuring a different Dimension of Wellness. Each attendee completed a passport to be entered for prizes.
